Lug & Buckle Width
The lug width is the gap between the two lugs of your watch case — the slot the strap sits in.
- Measure that inner gap in millimetres with a ruler or caliper, or read it from your watch’s specifications.
- Choose the same number here. A 20 mm gap takes a 20 mm strap.
Reading our sizes. They are written lug / buckle: 20 / 18 mm is 20 mm at the watch and 18 mm at the buckle, which is the same width or narrower. The table lists every pair we make; custom sizes on request.
Measure between the lugs — not across the watch case.
Not sure? Send us your watch brand and model, or a clear photo, and we’ll confirm the fit before we start.

Sits low and close to the wrist. Quiet, clean, and easy under a shirt cuff — the profile that suits dress and everyday watches.
Lug-end thickness: 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5 mm — or ask for your own.
Built up through the middle for a fuller, sportier presence, then tapered down towards the buckle so it still sits comfortably.
Lug-end thickness: 3.5, 4.5, 5.0 or 5.5 mm — or ask for your own.
Thickness is measured at the lug end, where the strap meets your watch. From there we taper it down so it finishes cleanly against your buckle.
The leather
Swift Calfskin
Swift is a smooth calfskin with almost no visible grain — a fine, close surface with a faint satin sheen rather than a pressed pattern. What it is known for is colour: the hide is dyed all the way through, so the shade looks lit from within and shifts as the light moves across it, in a way pressed-grain leathers never do. The trade is honesty. With no grain to hide behind, Swift shows a scratch where a pebbled leather would swallow it, and a light rub with a soft cloth usually settles one back in. Choose it for depth of colour, not for armour.

Watch Strap Structure
Every strap is built around the three details that decide how it lives on your wrist — not the ones that photograph well.
-
01
Quick release spring bars
Choose quick release or regular spring bars. We fit them before it ships, so you can change straps in seconds — no tools, no scratched lugs.
-
02
Soft Zermatt lining
The underside is lined with soft, water-resistant Zermatt — comfortable against the skin all day, and in warm weather.
-
03
Your name on the lining
Initials or a name, hand-stamped into the lining free of charge, so the piece on your wrist is one of one.
How it is made
The XILUGS Crafting Process
18 handmade steps behind every XILUGS watch strap.
-
01
Cutting the Leather
Cut by hand from a full hide against a steel rule — never die-pressed in batches.
-
02
Skiving
The edges are pared thinner so the strap folds without a ridge under your wrist.
-
03
Reinforcement
A reinforcement layer is set in where the strap takes the most stress.
-
04
Hammering
The layers are hammered flat so they sit true before they are bonded.
-
05
Assembly
Outer leather and Zermatt lining are laid up together and aligned by hand.
-
06
Rolling
The layers are rolled under pressure to bond them into one piece.
-
07
Shaping
The strap is cut to its final profile and the tip is shaped.
-
08
Edge Sanding
The raw edge is sanded through descending grits until the layers read as one.
-
09
Punching the Stitch Holes
Holes are struck with a pricking iron at a constant angle — what gives a hand seam its slant.
-
10
Saddle Stitching
By hand: two needles, one waxed thread, every hole passed twice. It cannot be done by machine.
-
11
Edge Creasing
A heated creaser draws a fine line along the edge, framing the stitch.
-
12
Edge Painting
The burnished edge is sealed and hand-painted in thin coats to match the leather.
-
13
Keepers
The keeper loops that hold the tail are made and fitted by hand.
-
14
Buckle Holes
The pin holes are punched to the exact length you ordered, not a standard pattern.
-
15
Fitting the Buckle
The buckle is fitted in the finish you chose.
-
16
Spring Bars
Quick-release spring bars are fitted so the strap goes on your watch without tools.
-
17
Quality Control
Every strap is checked against your order and against itself before it leaves.
-
